If you were to poll some webmasters you would likely find that they feel it would be easier to find the Loch Ness Monster or Bigfoot then it is to get traffic to their websites. Why is that? Perhaps they should consider trying this form of a giveaway. Have a sweepstake for something of value and watch the traffic increase to your website.

What are sweepstakes?

Hopefully you have seen a sweepstakes before, but it is basically a contest giveaway. You are in essence offering in most cases a physical product to someone who has a chance of winning it. If you went to your local mall, you often see a "enter to win this car" booth. That is a sweepstakes. They must legally enter your information in for a chance to win the car. Even though most people know they will never likely "win" it, they still fill out the form. Companies use this to bring traffic to their offers.

Why should I use sweepstakes?

A sweepstakes is a great list builder and traffic generator. It will all depend on the "prize structure" you are offering. Some companies offer cars, some people offer new iPhones, Televisions, or some other items of high value. The response to your contest will also depend upon the niche you are in. You want things that are incentives to your particular field, such as brand new gym equipment for a fitness offer, just might not appeal to someone promoting a music company who offers a new premium guitar in the sweepstakes.

How do Sweepstakes improve site traffic?

People will want to enter the sweepstakes. Offer to let then enter it more than once. Watch as people tell their friends and family about this cool chance to with that "shiny new object". Once they do this they are hooked. They will want to come back and visit your site to find out who won. If you want to further increase your traffic, offer runner-up prizes, or even some basic prize for playing. This could cover a host of options. You can even give daily or weekly lower level prizes. Keeping people bring traffic to your pages over the long haul.

What if I don't have anything to offer?

A sweepstake incentive does not have to be provided by you. Offer a television and approach a local business to offer them 50 percent of the names of entry in exchange. Think out side of the box. If you don't have something to give away, find someone who does. There are any number of ways to come up with a sweepstake offer once the other party knows it will increase their traffic, mailing list and sales income.
