Driving traffic with content marketing is one way that you as an online marketer can get traction and targeted searchers, should you choose to invest the time that it takes to get the content written and submitted.

Although I am writing about non-paid traffic methods in this article, there is a price to be paid and that price is the time that you invest in writing the content (articles & blog posts) along with commenting in the forums and on social media sites.

This traffic strategy also works really well if you already have expertise in a particular business or niche. But with any source of traffic - you need to test and a plan, so you know what you are going to do and how you are going to accomplish the plan.

1. Article Writing works well but takes time and very specific planning if you are going to see results. From directories to niche oriented websites, article writing can have a very positive impact, but the content must be researched, well written, original and not copied from another source on the web. Note: In some cases it might even pay to hire a writer but this too takes time and money.

2. Forums are the original online community where people go for information and get questions answered by experts. If you are looking for targeted traffic in your niche, then consider researching and investing your time in multiple forums so you can test and get traction as soon as possible. Forums are also a great way to connect with a target audience but it takes time to build rapport.

3. Blogging has become extremely popular and continues to gain momentum. There are three ways that you can take advantage of blogging should you decide that this traffic method is one you want to pursue. The first way is that of a guest blogger-providing information and commentary on subjects and topics you are experienced in. The second way is through writing your own blog posts on your own blog site and the third way is to comment on different blog sites pertaining to your business or niche.

4. Social Media Sites can be a great for spreading your content around and also getting the word out about you and your business. If you decide to utilize social media sites, just be sure to post original content and not overdo it.

Should you choose to test any one of the above traffic methods, realize that you will need to monetize the traffic as it comes to your website or squeeze page, especially if you are specializing in the area of list building.
