SEO Traffic - Getting Traffic Through Proper SEO Implementation
During the process of building your website you spent months creating content rich pages. Hopefully, during the process you also accounted for the need to drive traffic to these pages. If you did then you are well on your way to understanding search engine optimization, or SEO. Search engines are a major form of free traffic for websites and they have several requirements that they look for in order to drive that traffic to you. If however you did not account for SEO from the beginning then you may have a long road ahead of you for the much coveted search engine traffic.
SEO techniques have been around for many years. It is the process of creating content rich websites or pages that are optimized based on an algorithm that nobly truly knows outside of the programmers and owners of the search companies. Even though nobody knows for sure, there are several facets that the search programmers have publicly acknowledged as being helpful to the end-user experience and these become common SEO concepts.
There's two types of search engine optimization.
There are two basic types of SEO that you need to concern yourself with. On page SEO and off page SEO. On page SEO simply refers to anything that can be specifically done to one given page of a website which include, Title, keywords, meta-tags, emphasized text such as bold and underline, internal link structure, heading tags, and the content keyword density percentage.
Off page SEO refers to other common practices such as link building, social networking, blogging and any other methods to increase search engine visibility.
What a search engine does.
The search engine basically keeps track of and indexes the content of your website. They look at several factors to determine the validity of that content. For example, Google will read the title keywords, and other factors to make sure they are all relevant to each other.
How does search engine optimization help your website traffic?
Search engine optimization is a balancing act. Search engines want to know that the content you are providing to a user is relevant to the given search term that the user is searching for. This means that if your content is formatted properly then you are using proper SEO techniques during the creation of that content. If you are including proper keyword rich titles, correct meta-tags, alt tags on your images, bolding keyword text, and other SEO practices then your content should be relevant to the keyword. The balancing part is to optimize without decreasing the end-user experience any manner.
If you are bolding the entire page, or underlining the entire page, or have included the entire page as a header tag, the search engines won't know and will not display your page properly. Search companies consider this a form of spamming.

Directory Submission Traffic - Is This Still A Viable Option For Getting Website Traffic?
Once your website is created, one of the first traffic methods you are likely to encounter could be one of the least effective traffic methods still available today. Or, it could actually be a great method if you know how to use it and what you're getting yourself into. This traffic method is none other than directory submissions. Quite a common traffic method at the beginning of the Internet, this method is still being used, but is it still a viable option for getting website traffic?
What are directory submissions?
If you've ever picked up a phone book, understanding the principle behind it directory should be pretty straightforward. He directory is simply a listing of whatever topics are within the listing. The phone book is a directory of telephone numbers, a website directory is a listing of websites. In most cases directory listings are submitted to directories and verified by the directory owners for validity, accuracy and quality.
Not all directories are created equal.
A website owner has the option to submit their website for inclusion in the directory. Some directory inclusions are free while others must be paid for in order to be included in the directory. Neither option guarantees the quality of the directory or the listings within it. That is solely up to the owner of the directory. Better directories will still have a much higher quality control for any links that are included within it. Whereas smaller directories may or may not have the means to maintain them properly.
Do directories really get traffic to my website?
Directory submission traffic really depends upon the directory that you have your website listed. To go back to the phone book analogy, the better the listings in the phone book and the more people using it the more likely you get seen. Directories such as DMOZ, which is the largest website directory on the Internet do receive tons of traffic from visitors looking for new website listings. The drawback to sites like this is a could take months to actually have a listing entered into that directory. If however you can get your site listed into it than it is worth it. With most directories you will either have to spend the time or the money to get them listed, however you will have to make your own determination based on the website traffic you receive if it was worth it for your business.
